Worcester Lions Community Football Club has been running since 2004 and works closely to help children gain confidence and improve their ability in football basics/skills in a fun environment. We hold football training sessions every Saturday morning (during term times) for children (girls and boys) age 4 to 12. The coaching sessions take place for 1 hour, between 10 and 11am on the sports fields at the back of Tudor Grange Academy, Bilford Road in Worcester. Whilst we operate at Tudor Grange, we are not connected to the school and are open as a club to any child who is interested. The emphasis of the club is to encourage children of whatever ability to participate and join in structured football sessions from FA qualified and CRB checked football coaches. We mainly operate as a club which seeks to train children in the very basics of football skills. We do occasionally arrange friendly matches with some of the local clubs so if the younger children want to participate they will get a taster of what a competitive game would be like. We have however, (from September 2009) started two football teams for the slightly older children (under 8's and under 9's) in a competitive league. Worcester Lions Community FC will always be here for any child who does not wish to move to a team and any child who does leave us is more than welcome to rejoin us knowing there is no pressure to compete for a place if things don’t work out with one of the local teams The emphasis on our club is for each child to participate but have FUN!!. If you / your child is interested we would be delighted to see you. Simply turn up any Saturday morning and we will get your child registered and he/she can join in straight away. There is no ‘signing on fee’ or ‘membership fee’, we just simply ask for £2.50 (from September 2009) for each session per child towards the cost of running the club. To joing the club, come prepared for registration by downloading the form. If any-one is interested in helping or being involved in the running of WLCFC, please speak to Sue Bentley. We are in need of volunteers to help with the running of the club, in various roles. We also need more people to help out with the coaching on a Saturday morning. Please also note that if you have a child in School Years 2-3 and would like to be involved with the running of a football team from September 2010, please speak to Sue Bentley. We would like to establish new teams for these age groups, but require volunteers to do so.
In February 2009 WLFC received the Worcester City Council '2009 Junior Club of the year' award. The award was made to the club which has made the single biggest contribution to any sport for under 18's in the City during the year |
